9 Breast Pumping Items That Are Actually Worth It

READING TIME: 7 MINUTES

World Breast Pumping Day is coming up on January 27th. It’s only right that I share my favorite breast pumping items that have made my pumping journey better. Below you will find 9 items that I think are actually worth purchasing. First though, let’s talk about this celebratory day!

What is world breast pumping day?

World Breast Pumping Day was created in 2017 by Wendy Armbruster. She is the founder of Snugabell and the creator of the PumpEase pumping bra. This day is to celebrate breast pumping parents and recognize the time, dedication, and energy it takes to breast pump.

My favorite breast pumping items

*Items are listed in no particular order*

1. A quality breast pump

This one is a bit obvious but all breast pumps are not created equally. Each woman responds to differently to various types of pumps. As for me, I love my Spectra Baby USA S1 (Babylist, buybuybaby, Target). It provides powerful suction, empties me completely, and is rechargeable. A successful breast pumping journey starts with finding the right breast pump! If you’re a mom on the go, I created a list of breast pumps for you to check out.

2. collection cups

Breast pumps typically come with bottles to pump into. While they are good, I find collection cups to be even better. I personally use the Legendairy Milk Silicone Collection Cups and they are amazing! They fit perfectly into my pumping bras. I’ve also used them in well fitting sports bras and crop tops. If you use a pump like the Spectra S1, collection cups can make it a bit more handsfree. Save 10% on your Legendairy Milk purchase when you shop through my link above!

3. silicone flange inserts

These have probably been the number 1 game changer for me. They’re much more comfortable and flexible compared to typical flanges. They also come in a ton of sizes. I purchased a set  from Legendairy Milk to use with the collection cups. I also have a set from the brand Maymom on Amazon to use with my handheld pump. Knowing your correct flange size can truly make or break your pumping experience so be sure to measure yourself to find the correct size. There’s a FREE simple ruler that you can print out here along with a helpful graphic to determine your size.

4. adapter to pump directly into bags

When I do use the flanges that came with my pump, I like to pump directly into bags. That way I don’t have to wash the bottles after (less parts to clean!) and I can easily pop the bags right into the freezer. I also purchased my adpaters from Amazon and they have made things so much easier!

5. handheld pump

When I first started my pumping journey my handheld pump came in clutch. Sometimes I just needed to breast pump a little for relief. Now, I love using my handheld pump on the go. It’s small so it can be easily stored in a diaper bag or purse. I typically take my Medela Harmony (buybuybaby, Target, Walmart, Amazon)  with me when I know I’m going to be out for a while.

6. Warming Lactation massagers

Oh what a relief a good set of warming massagers can give. Not only do they help when you have a clog duct or are feelings a bit sore, but they also help with milk flow while breast pumping. I use the Grownsy massagers but have also heard great things about the brand LaVie

7. Sarah wells pumparoo

The Sarah Wells Pumparoo wet/dry bag is a favorite of mine because it provides a sanitary place to store my pump parts when on the go and also has a flap that can be used to place your parts on while transferring your milk or if you need somewhere to place them after cleaning. It’s super high quality and comes in a ton of designs. Many of which are available on Amazon. I also own her Cold Gold milk storage bag. I like to use it for milk that I’ve pumped into bags and for my little one’s snacks while on the go.

8. Ceres Chill Chiller

All I have to say is, I freaking love this thing! For starters, it’s an insulated container made specifically for breast milk. It has various configurations for use and can hold up to 34 ounces of milk. I like using it when I know we’ll be out for a long period of time and need to pump. I’ll just pump then pour my milk into it. Or I’ll set it up and pump beforehand so that I can have milk ready to go for my little one. It’s truly been a great addition to breast pumping collection. You can find it on Amazon and directly from Ceres Chill.

9. Reusable breast pads

These really came in handy when I first started breast pumping. I rarely leak these days but still keep them on hand just in case. They’re more comfortable than disposable pads and more cost effective since they can be washed and reused. I bought a 14 pack of organic bamboo pads for just $17 on Amazon!

If you are breast pumping, I highly recommend checking out the items mentioned if you haven’t already. If you know someone who is expecting and is planning to pump, any of these items would make great gifts. Show them a little appreciation for their dedication to pump. Also, don’t forget to remind them (or yourself) that breast pumping IS breastfeeding!
