Maeve Helm created BREAD Beauty Supply in 2020 to focus on the basic necessities of natural hair care. When creating her brand, she wanted to make products that made caring for your textured hair feel more fun – and less of a chore. Thus, this brand focuses on the must-haves of haircare. Briogeo
After the sudden loss of her mother, Nancy Twine, the creator of Briogeo, decided to follow her passions. She started out in finance but pivoted to create her haircare line. She is a leader in the clean beauty space and currently has over 50 products available at Ulta.
CAmille Rose
When you think of natural hair brands, I’m sure Camille Rose is one of the first that comes to mind. A leader in the textured hair care world, Janell Stephens launched Camille Rose Naturals in 2011. She started her brand as a way to cure her young children’s eczema. Their condition led them to experience extremely dry hair but Janell knew that through the use of products formulated with whole food blends, she could provide the relief they need. What started out as a DIY hair and skincare brand, Curlmix has transformed into a go-to brand for those with naturally curly hair who love styling their hair in a wash and go. Founded by a wife and husband duo, Kim and Tim Lewis has taken the textured haircare space by storm. From creating innovating products that help you perfect your wash and go in just 4 easy steps to opening up company investment to their growing community. CUrls
Mahisha Dellinger, a former marketing manager at a fortune 500, found inspiration to create CURLS after seeing the lack of natural hair products for women who looked like her. She wanted to created a natural hair brand that resonated with curly hair women everywhere. With quality and integrity at the forefront, she strives to make high-quality products accessible to the masses. Currently, there are 13 CURLS products available at Ulta.
Design Essentials
A true pioneer in natural hair brand industry, Cornell McBride, Sr. began his career in the health and beauty aids industry in 1973. In 1990, he launched Design Essentials. His goal was to provide direct distribution of premium, quality haircare and education for use in the salon and at home. His son, Cornell McBride, Jr. owns and runs the company. Through his leadership the company has been able to scale and 16 Design Essentials products are available at Ulta.
Donna's REcipe
Lovingly referred to as Auntie Tab by many on the internet, Tabitha Brown created Donna’s Recipe together with Gina Woods. Their mission was to offer a high-quality, vegan haircare brand that caters to natural hair. Grace Eleyae
If protecting your hair is a priority, Grace Eleyae has you covered – literally! Founded on the belief that you should never have to choose between protecting your strands and being stylish, the SLAP (satin-lined cap) was born. Grace Eleyae got her start after experiencing severe damage to her own hair and wanted a way to protect it while she worked to repair it. Kreyol Essence
Created by Yve-Car, Kreyol Essence was birthed to help remedy the “hairtastrophies” Yve-Car experienced as she cared for her hair. From relaxers to heat damage, her hair had been through a lot. However, as a young girl her mother always knew what to do to help keep her healthy. She used Haitian black castor oil. Due to the lack of availability of organic Haitian black castor oil in Yve-Car’s community in Philadelphia, she wanted to bring this magic hair remedy to the masses. If you’ve ever watched a natural hair tutorial on YouTube then you more likely than not have watched a video by the YouTube OG Whitney White. Whitney and her sister Taffeta founded Melanin Haircare in 2015. With a focus on high-quality, natural, and non-toxic ingredients, Melanin Haircare aims to bring healthy natural hair and scalp care to the community it serves. You can currently find 2 Melanin Haircare products at Ulta. (I highly recommend grabbing the travel kit so you can experience all of the goodies Melanin has to offer!)
Mixed Chicks
Created by two “mixed chicks” Kim Etheredge and Wendi Levy Kaaya, Mixed Chicks aims to revolutionize multicultural haircare. Kim grew up in Los Angeles and did a lot to her hair to try and fit in to meet the status quo. Growing up in an area where naturally curly hair wasn’t something that you often saw, she would often travel from store to store looking for products to “tame” her hair. She met Wendi who grew up on the East Coast. They bonded over similar lived experiences and sought out to create a product line that would work for them and others with hair like theirs. Mixed Chicks was born and 6 of their products can now be found in Ulta.
Naturalicious
Gwen Jimmere started Naturalicious when she found herself unexpectedly laid off and going through a terrible divorce. To generate income, she started selling hair products that she created in her kitchen. Her natural hair wash days used to take her 5 hours, but when the products she made, that time significantly decreased to just 30 minutes by creating a simple 3-step process. Naturalicious is now one of the fastest growing natural hair care lines on the market. Gwen is also the first Black woman to hold a patent for a natural haircare product. Tracee Ellis Ross is no stranger to rocking her beauty naturally curly hair both on screen and off. She wanted to created a line of products that gives natural hair the support it needs to be its true self. Qhemet Biologics

TGIN was created by the late Chris-Tia Donaldson in 2015 with a goal to bring a superior beauty experience to the natural hair community. From ingredients like African shea butter to hibiscus, each product is crafted to target the needs of those with natural hair. TGIN also supports the mission of the TGIN foundation which advocates for women undergoing breast cancer treatment. Aris Singleton, TGIN CEO, continues to carry the mission that Chris-Tia started before her passing in 2021. There are currently 25 TGIN products available at Ulta.
