In this post, I’ll be sharing everything you need to know about the Press Play collection along with my thoughts and results after using it.

What you should know

What's included in the doux press play collection?

There are 7 items in the Press Play collection. This includes the:

  • Press Rewind Curl Retention Shampoo – a strengthening cleanser that also restores the moisture balance to help preserve curls when heat styling.
  • Fast Forward Heat Prep Conditioner – a moisturizing conditioner formulated to strengthen the hair and prep it for heat styling.
  • Silent Treatment 30-Day Anti-Humidity Spray – a heat-activated humidity shield.
  • Just Glaze Silkening Fluid – a weightless heat protectant that provides silky, straight,  and soft results when heat styling.
  • O.P.P. One Pass Prep Heat Protection Spray – a weightless dry oil that offers heat protection up to 420℉. It softens the hair in just one pass to help avoid heat damage that can be caused by multiple passes of a flat iron.
  • Doux Drops Bonding Polish – smoothes the hair cuticle and strengthens below the surface to provide heat protection up to 420℉.
  • Gangster Wrap Foaming Wrap Lotion – styles pixies, sets rod/roller styles, and can be used as a styling mousse for curly hair to provide frizz reduction and humidity protection.

how do the products work?

As stated on the website, The Press Play Collection is “the first heat protection, anti-humidity, and bonding technology system formulated specifically for textured hair.”

Each product is made with DOUX-plex bonding technology. This technology is made to preserve your curl pattern, offer heat protection, and restore your hair’s moisture balance. It is also the driving force behind the entire collection.

In addition to the DOUX-plex bonding technology, each product has their own key ingredients to promote healthy hair. For example, the Press Rewind Curl Retention shampoo and the Fast Forward Heat Prep Conditioner are both made with aloe, cactus, and pataua oil. While the Silent Treatment 30-Day Anti-Humidity Spray is made with hydrolyzed cornstarch, keratin, and humectant.

You can easily find a detailed ingredient list on The Doux website, as well as, the back of each product.

What order do you use the doux press play thermal styling system?

When I first purchased the collection I was bit confused on the order the styling products should be used. Here’s an easy to follow guide:

  1. Shampoo & condition with Press Rewind Shampoo and Fast Forward Conditioner.
  2. Section hair into 4 parts. Spray each section with 1-2 pumps of Silent Treatment and detangle.
  3. Apply a small amount of Just Glaze Silkening Fluid to each section.
  4. Blow dry hair. (If doing a style that requires damp hair, skip this step)
  5. You can use Doux Drops at this point, if you choose, or you can use them while your hair is still damp. Doux Drops can be used before, during, and after heat styling.
  6. If flat ironing your hair, lightly mist your hair with O.P.P. One Pass Press BEFORE straightening.
  7. If doing a rod set or styling a pixie on damp hair, use a generous amount of the Gangster Wrap Foaming Wrap Lotion to complete the style before sitting under a hooded dryer.

My Thoughts and results

I grabbed everything except the Doux Drops and Gangster Wrap. Usually, I only press my hair once a year and was in need of new products. This collection dropped right at the perfect time. For reference, I have type 3c/4a curls, medium density, low porosity, with medium-coarse textured hair.

First of all, the entire collection smells amazing! I can be a bit sensitive to scents so I love that this collection didn’t have a nauseating fragrance to them.

Shampoo & Conditioner

The curl retention shampoo and heat prep conditioner left my hair feeling deeply cleansed and well moisturized. The shampoo did a great job of getting rid of product buildup and leaving my scalp extra clean. I loved the texture of the conditioner and how much slip it had. It allowed me to easily detangle my hair.

Silent Treatment & Just Glaze

I followed up with Silent Treatment and Just Glaze. Silent Treatment was extremely lightweight. I couldn’t even tell I sprayed anything on my hair. Upon putting Just Glaze in my hand, I KNEW it was going to do what it needed to. It has a silky feel to it and when I applied it to my hair, my hair felt silky and soft.

O.P.P. One Pass Press

I stretched my hair using my RevAir and my hair felt absolutely amazing after doing so. Side note – If you’ve been interested in the RevAir, I have a discount code for you to use. Simply enter “SODAZZLING” at checkout to receive money off.

After stretching my hair, I sprayed O.P.P. throughout my strands. When I tell you that my hair was so silky after just ONE pass of the flat iron, I mean it. Check out the Instagram post below to see for yourself.

How long did my hair last?

My hair lasted for over 3 weeks and I’m sure it could’ve lasted longer. However, my scalp was ready to be cleansed.

I can truly say that these are the best hair products for a silk press that I’ve tried thus far. The fact that I only had to press my hair once and had amazing results, that’s a win! I’d definitely recommend these hair products to anyone looking to silk press their natural hair without the fear of heat damage.

An added bonus is that you don’t have to wait for shipping, you can find them at Target!
