Kiehl’s Better Screen UV Serum 30 Day Review

Over the past 30 days I’ve been testing out the Kiehl’s Better Screen UV Serum. For reference, I have pretty normal skin that can be bit sensitive to certain things, like sunscreen. I also suffer from post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. I love that this sunscreen combines skin protection with collagen peptide to protect you from ultraviolet (UV) rays and gives your skin extra care.

WHat are the key ingredients of kiehl's better screen?

This sunscreen provides SPF 50+ UVA/UVB protection against UV rays. It’s formulated with collagen peptide to help visibly correct signs of skin damage caused by UV. Collagen peptides have been shown to help even out skin tone and texture.

The Kiehl’s Better Screen is a chemical sunscreen and has the active ingredients Avobenzone 3%, Homosalate 7%, Octisalate 5%, and Octocrylene 7%.

*Note*: I know that many people try to avoid these ingredients or may have concerns of their use while breastfeeding. There are a number of articles that show that they are considered safe up to a certain percentage. If you are breastfeeding, I highly encourage you to speak with your doctor before using any sunscreen. While I would love to use a mineral sunscreen to avoid these chemicals, it’s difficult to find one that isn’t tinted or doesn’t leave me with a terrible white cast.

My thoughts on this sunscreen

  • Consistency/texture – I’ve tried several brands of sunscreens from tinted sunscreens, moisturizer + SPF combos, silicone based sunscreens, and the list goes on. While the Kiehl’s Better Screen is labeled as serum, I find that its consistency is a bit thicker than what I am used to when I think of a serum. However, It is smooth in texture and applies easily.

  • Blendability – Due to its consistency, this sunscreen blends like a dream. I like to apply my sunscreen in layers and when I do this, it blends quickly and seamlessly.

  • Finish – This sunscreen serum leaves me with a dewy finish, but it isn’t greasy. After it has absorbed I’m left with a nice, natural glow.

  • No eye burning – The most important thing to me when it comes to sunscreen, aside from protection, is how it affects my eyes. This is one of the few that don’t burn my eyes. Even after extended wear.

  • Cost – While it is on the pricier side (about $42), I feel that it is on par with other mid-tier luxury brands.
