tips for building a simple body care routine
The first step in creating a skin care routine for your body is to determine if your skin is balanced or if it is on the drier/dehydrated side. This will help you determine what type of body care products to use.
DRY BRUSHING
Using a dry brush like this one from EcoTools helps to exfoliate the skin and promotes smoother skin. Dry brushing right before your shower allows you to cleanse your skin of flaky and dead skin cells. It may also help improve the performance of the body care products that you follow up with.
CLEANSING BAR
Before going in with a body wash, using a gentle cleansing bar like the Dr. Bronner’s unscented bar soap helps to effectively cleanse the skin. This also helps to ensure that you have gotten rid of dirt, lotions, oils, and sunscreen that may be left on the body from the day.
BODY WASH
After cleansing with your bar soap, it’s time to start restoring moisture to the skin. It’s important to use a body wash that has moisture or hydration as its key focus. The Saltair Golden Hour Body Wash, Naturium Glow Getter Multi-Oil Body Wash, and Naturium The Booster Hyaluronic Acid Body Wash are all great options to start with.
BODY SCRUB
Adding a body scrub to your routine helps to get rid of additional dead or flaky skin. They can also help to smooth bumpy skin. If you suffer from keratosis pilaris (aka strawberry skin) the First Aid Beauty KP Bump Eraser is an excellent choice. Other great body scrubs are the Fenty Beauty Buff Ryder Exfoliating Scrub, Biossance Squalene + Enzyme Sugar Scrub, and the Kopari Coconut Crush Scrub.
BODY LOTION and BODY CREAM
The next step in your body care routine is applying your lotion. Depending on how dry your skin typically feels will determine if you should up use a body lotion or body cream. You can always use both if you feel the need. Be sure to apply your lotion or cream to damp skin. This will allow for optimal absorption.
BODY OIL
Finally, apply a body oil to help seal in all the moisture from the previous steps. You can also apply your oil immediately after the shower before your lotion. Use a deeply moisturizing, but lightweight oil, like the Kopari Golden Aura Body Oil or the Naturium Glow Getter Body Oil. These oils are absorbed pretty quickly by the skin so you don’t have to worry about oil stains on your clothing or sheets. However, they’ll both leave your skin glowing.
