In my last post, I shared some of my favorite Sephora finds. In this post, I want to highlight the Black-owned brands available at Sephora, many of which I plan on buying from during the sale. So, if you’re planning on making a purchase during the 2020 Sephora Holiday Sale, here’s a list of Black-owned brands to shop and support during the sale event.
Haircare
Adwoa Beauty – created by Julian Addo, whose traditional name is also Adwoa, this haircare brand prioritizes a healthy scalp. They believe that a happy scalp equals happy hair. They are a gender-neutral brand that caters to multicultural hair textures.
Bread Beauty Supply – created by Maeva Heim, this brand creates basic haircare products for not so basic hair. They believe in simplifying your wash day so you can have more time thinking, and doing other things.
Briogeo – created by Nancy Twine, Briogeo is a 6-free hair care brand that is free from harsh sulfates, silicones, phthalates, parabens, DEA, and artificial dyes. Their products are formulated to detoxify, hydrate, and protect the hair.
Health and Wellness
Golde – co-founded by Trinity Wofford and Issey Kobori, Golde strives to bring good vibes to the wellness industry. They created superfood products that are vegan and taste good to help you look and feel good.
Makeup
Pat McGrath Labs – created by Pat McGrath, this makeup brand exudes elegance and luxury. She has been a legend in the makeup industry for many years and with her brand, shares her cosmetics obsession. Through her eyeshadow palettes, lipsticks, eyeliners, and lip pencils, she demonstrates the power of transformation and beauty.
Skincare
KNC Beauty – due to the lack of natural lip masks on the market, Kristen Crawley created this brand to bring all-natural, collagen-infused lip masks to the market. She has since expanded to also include eye masks in her product lineup.
Shani Darden Skincare – Shani Darden is an expert esthetician who focuses on simple, yet effective solutions. She had a passion for developing her own products and decided to create her own line of skincare products that perform high and give glowing results.
Honorable Mention
Fenty Beauty – there has been some debate about whether Fenty is actually Black-owned since the parent company is Kendo brands, the same folks who own Sephora. It is said that Rihanna only owns 15% of the beauty brand so many people don’t consider it Black-owned. I don’t know for sure and I wasn’t able to find a definitive answer on how much stake she has, however, no one can deny the fact that Fenty Beauty changed the makeup game. So, for me, Fenty Beauty is an honorable mention because it’s not 100% Black-owned but Rihanna is a co-owner and the inclusivity of the brand is like no other.
There you have it, the Black-owned brands currently at Sephora. Earlier this year Sephora pledged to have 15% of their shelf space dedicated to Black-owned brands so hopefully soon, or by the next sale, I’ll be able to create an even longer list of Black-owned brands to shop at Sephora.
If you end up purchasing anything from these brands, let me know in the comments. If you post about your purchase on Instagram, tag me, I’d love to hear all about it!
