A New Year Brings New Beginnings

First things first, happy New Year! 2021 was definitely an interesting year. Actually, the last two years have been interesting. Nonetheless, I like to think of January 1st as a way to reset. This new year will definitely be full of new beginnings.

Last year, I vowed to spend more time in the present. Meaning, put my phone down more and just live in the moment. Looking back through all of the videos and photos on my phone, I think I stuck to that pretty well. This year, my goal is to enjoy the moments but also document the good times. Since I chose not to record everything, I missed out on some important memories that I wish I could play back.

Speaking of playing back memories, I lost many loved ones in 2021. I wish I had the opportunity to talk to them just one more time. So, one of my goals for 2022 is to call my family and friends more. In this new year, I want to begin renewing and nourishing relationships with those who mean the most to me. It’s so easy to get caught up in our own everyday lives and we forget to reach out, even if it’s just to say hello.

Personal development is another area that I’d like to continue working on throughout the new year. They say we are our own worst critic and that rings so true for me. Since I was a kid, I’ve struggled with a few things. I tend to be hard on myself when I make a mistake. I sometimes find it difficult to love myself the way I should be, especially when I’m not feeling my best. I’ve allowed my success to be determined by how much money I make or what I feel like I “should” be doing with my life.

If 2021 taught me one thing, it’s to learn to love myself where I am. Recognize where I’ve been, appreciate where I am, and always work towards where I want to go. That’s exactly what I plan to do in 2022.

Now, on the newest beginning this year will bring…

In my last post, I shared that I had something to share. I’ve already announced the good news on instagram, but if you aren’t following me there, I’m expecting! Talk about a new beginning, am I right? This is my first pregnancy and it has been such a beautiful journey. It’s also been an interesting one being all the way in Japan without having my family and close friends nearby. However, I’m excited for what is to come and I can’t wait to share my experience.

With all of that being said, you will see more on my blog about these things. Tools that have helped in my personal growth, things I’ve loved (or hated) during my pregnancy, and my transition into motherhood. I’ll still be talking about natural hair and skincare though, since they are both things that I enjoy tremendously. So cheers to the new year and all it has to bring!

How do you view the start of a new year? Do you see it as just a continuation of what already is? Or do you also believe that a new year brings new beginnings?
