Baby Registry Regrets: 3 Things My Baby Didn’t Use

I don’t have many baby registry regrets. A lot of research and product comparison went into selecting what I wanted to receive. However, there are some things that my husband and I purchased that made sense at the time, but became useless after some time. Here are 3 things that my baby didn’t use very often.

1. Mamaroo swing - My biggest baby registry regret

My husband actually gave in and bought the Mamaroo multi-motion swing. We needed a safe space to put our son while we completed tasks around the house. Since he preferred being held and rocked, we figured this would be a good buy. He used it for a good month or two before being over it. We were also in the process of a move across the world. By the time we received our household goods, he’d outgrown it.

$200 went down the drain because there was also a recall. We are unable to sell it to anywhere and it’s currently collecting dust in a closet. If we decide to have another child, maybe they’ll enjoy it.

2. A special trash can

I heard nothing but great things about the Ubbi trash can. I purchased this myself because it went on sale. We’ve actually been using it for a good year. That was until our son started solids and his poops began to get really stinky. I think the trash can does a good job with holding odors in. However, having a separate trash is unnecessary, at least in our case. These days we just throw his pee diapers in the regular trash. For his poopy diapers we put them in a plastic bag (be it a grocery bag, produce bag, or whatever we have on hand) then throw it in the big trash outside.

It just makes more sense because his Ubbi was never full enough and we only dumped it once a week. By that time, it smelled so bad when opening it. I couldn’t take it.

3. A Changing pad

We have limited space so thankfully we skipped a separate changing table. We did purchase a changing pad to go on top of his dresser though. Another thing my baby didn’t really use. In reality, we changed him wherever we were. A towel or reusable cloth changing pad like these ones from amazon does the trick.

I love that these are washable and come in a pack of 3. We bought two sets of them and put one in every room of the house. We also keep one in his diaper bag.

As parents, especially first time parents, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with figuring out everything to get for our baby. I hope this list of my baby registry regrets helps you figure out what you should skip. I’d be more than happy to share the things we love and use regularly. Just let me know!

What are some of your baby registry regrets? Are there things your baby doesn't use?
